Many people will be out of school and work this Monday, and several agencies, businesses and the like will be closed for the holidays. Columbus Day is a federal holiday, so any agency, organization, or government entity will be closed. October 10 is also recognized as Indigenous Peoples Day, a holiday that honors the Indigenous peoples and cultures of America. In 2021, President Biden declared Indigenous Peoples Day a federal holiday alongside Columbus Day. Here’s everything you need to know about the shipping closures for this Connecticut vacation.

Will the banks be open on the public holiday?

No, banks will not be open on Columbus Day. Although these are not government agencies, there is a good chance that most local and regional banks as well as national chains will be closed on this holiday.

Will mail services (USPS, UPS, Fedex) be open during the holidays?

All post offices will be closed on Mondays and the Postal Service will not deliver mail or packages during the holidays.

Will all schools be closed on the public holiday?

Most public and private schools are closed on Columbus Day, but check each school’s or school district’s school calendar.
